Compare the2025 Cadillac XT5VS 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser

For better protection of the passenger compartment, the XT5 uses safety cell construction with a three-dimensional high-strength frame that surrounds the passenger compartment. It provides extra impact protection and a sturdy mounting location for door hardware and side impact beams. The Land Cruiser uses a body-on-frame design, which has no frame members above the floor of the vehicle.

Both the XT5 and the Land Cruiser have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, forward collision warning, forward crash prevention, rear collision prevention, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The XT5 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The Land Cruiser’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Cadillac’s powertrain warranty covers the XT5 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Toyota covers the Land Cruiser. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Land Cruiser ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The XT5’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Land Cruiser’s (6 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates rated the XT5 first among midsize premium suvs in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The Land Cruiser isn’t in the top three in its category.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the XT5’s fuel efficiency. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The XT5 FWD’s standard fuel tank has 1.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Land Cruiser (19.4 vs. 17.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The XT5 AWD’s standard fuel tank has 3.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Land Cruiser (21.7 vs. 17.9 gallons).

The XT5 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Cadillac XT5, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Land Cruiser.

The XT5’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 65 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Land Cruiser 1958’s standard 70 series tires. The XT5’s optional tires have a lower 55 series profile than the Land Cruiser’s optional 60 series tires.

The XT5 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Land Cruiser’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The XT5 AWD handles at .84 G’s, while the Land Cruiser First Edition pulls only .69 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The XT5 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.7 seconds quicker than the Land Cruiser First Edition (27 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 29.7 seconds @ .55 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the XT5’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the Land Cruiser’s (38.7 feet vs. 39.4 feet). The XT5 w/20” wheels’ turning circle is .4 feet tighter than the Land Cruiser’s (39 feet vs. 39.4 feet).

The Cadillac XT5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1300 to 1700 pounds less than the Toyota Land Cruiser.

The XT5 is 4.2 inches shorter than the Land Cruiser, making the XT5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The XT5 is 10 inches shorter in height than the Land Cruiser, making the XT5 much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Unibody construction lowers the XT5’s center of gravity significantly without reducing ground clearance. This contributes to better on the road handling and better off-road performance and stability. In addition, unibody construction makes the chassis stiffer, improving handling and reducing squeaks and rattles. The Land Cruiser doesn’t use unibody construction, but a body-on-frame design.

The front grille of the XT5 2.0 Turbo uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The XT5 has 3.6 inches more front headroom, 8.2 inches more front legroom, .7 inches more front hip room, 3.1 inches more rear headroom and 12.3 inches more rear legroom than the Land Cruiser.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the XT5 Premium Luxury/Sport’s liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The XT5 uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Land Cruiser uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Cadillac service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac fifth in service department satisfaction. With a 32% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 21st.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the XT5 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Both the XT5 and the Land Cruiser have standard heated front seats. The XT5 Premium Luxury/Sport also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Land Cruiser.

The XT5 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional Automatic Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting and stopping automatically, with the driver only responsible for switching from reverse to drive. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The XT5 is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
