Both the CT4-V and the 2 Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

Cadillac’s powertrain warranty covers the CT4-V 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than BMW covers the 2 Series. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the 2 Series ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 62 percent more Cadillac dealers than there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the CT4-V’s warranty.

The CT4-V’s standard 2.7 turbo 4-cylinder produces 70 more horsepower (325 vs. 255) and 85 lbs.-ft. more torque (380 vs. 295) than the 230i’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The CT4-V’s 2.7 turbo 4-cylinder produces 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (380 vs. 369) than the M240i’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The CT4-V Blackwing’s standard 3.6 turbo V6 produces 90 more horsepower (472 vs. 382) and 76 lbs.-ft. more torque (445 vs. 369) than the M240i’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder.

As tested in Car and Driver the Cadillac CT4-V turbo 4 cyl. is faster than the 230i 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder (automatics tested):

In a Car and Driver race course test, the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing was clocked 6 seconds faster than the BMW M240i Coupe xDrive (174.6 sec. vs. 180.6 sec.).

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the CT4-V’s fuel efficiency. The 2 Series doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The CT4-V has 3.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the 2 Series (17.5 vs. 13.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The CT4-V has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The 2 Series doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Cadillac CT4-V higher (4 to 5 out of 10) than the BMW 2 Series (2 to 4). This means the CT4-V produces up to 20.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 2 Series every 15,000 miles.

The CT4-V offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The 2 Series doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Cadillac CT4-V, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the 2 Series.

For better stopping power the CT4-V Blackwing’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the 2 Series:

For better traction, the CT4-V has larger standard tires than the 2 Series (235/40R18 vs. 225/45R18). The CT4-V Blackwing’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 2 Series (F:255/35R18 & R:275/35R18 vs. F:245/35R19 & R:255/35R19).

The CT4-V’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 230i’s standard 45 series tires.

The CT4-V has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The 2 Series doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the CT4-V’s wheelbase is 1.4 inches longer than on the 2 Series (109.3 inches vs. 107.9 inches).

The CT4-V Blackwing handles at 1.04 G’s, while the 230i Coupe pulls only .92 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The CT4-V has standard seating for 5 passengers; the 2 Series can only carry 4.

The CT4-V has .6 inches more front legroom, 1.5 inches more rear headroom, 1.2 inches more rear legroom and 2.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the 2 Series.

The CT4-V’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The 2 Series doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The CT4-V’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The 2 Series does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The CT4-V’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. BMW does not offer a locking feature on the 2 Series’ standard power windows.

The CT4-V’s standard Keyless Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Comfort Go standard on the 2 Series only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the car.

The CT4-V has two rear doors to provide better access for cargo and rear passengers. The 2 Series doesn’t offer rear doors.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the CT4-V has standard extendable sun visors. The 2 Series doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the CT4-V keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The 2 Series doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The CT4-V offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the 2 Series.

The Cadillac CT4-V has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the overhead console. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. BMW charges extra for Homelink® on the 2 Series.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Cadillac CT4-V has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the 2 Series.

The CT4-V Blackwing was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 3 more times in the last 4 years. The M235i/M240i hasn’t been picked since 2017, and the M235i/M240i has only been chosen 3 times.
