When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Traverse Z71’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Enclave doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the Traverse and the Enclave have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

There are almost 4 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Buick dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Traverse’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Buick vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 5 more problems per 100 vehicles, Buick is rated lower.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Traverse FWD gets better fuel mileage than the Enclave FWD (20 city/26 hwy vs. 20 city/25 hwy).

The Traverse stops much shorter than the Enclave:

Suspension and Handling

The Traverse High Country AWD handles at .80 G’s, while the Enclave Sport Touring AWD pulls only .76 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For greater off-road capability the Traverse Z71 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Enclave Avenir (7.8 vs. 7.3 inches), allowing the Traverse to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Traverse is 3.1 inches shorter than the Enclave, making the Traverse easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Traverse offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the Enclave can only carry 7.

The Traverse has .1 inches more front shoulder room, .1 inches more rear hip room, .1 inches more rear shoulder room and .1 inches more third row hip room than the Enclave.

Cargo Capacity

The Traverse’s cargo area provides more volume than the Enclave.

Economic Advantages

According to iSeeCars.com the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse retains 48.14% of its original value after 5 years, more than the 41.48% resale value of the 2026 Buick Enclave after five years, which can save the Chevrolet’s owner up to $5285 in depreciation.

Recommendations

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Traverse third among midsize suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Enclave isn’t in the top three.

The Chevrolet Traverse outsold the Buick Enclave by almost four to one during 2025.
