Safety

The Chevrolet Equinox EV offers an optional HD Surround Vision and it also offers an optional rear camera washer to make backing always safe, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the Toyota C-HR doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Equinox EV has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Rear Cross Traffic Braking, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Only the C-HR XSE offers Parking Support Brake.

Both the Equinox EV and the C-HR have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV weighs 410 to 719 pounds more than the Toyota C-HR. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Equinox EV’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the C-HR’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 2 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Toyota dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Equinox EV’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 22 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated below average.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Equinox EV has larger standard tires than the C-HR (245/55R19 vs. 235/60R18). The Equinox EV’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the C-HR (275/40R21 vs. 235/60R18).

The Equinox EV’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the C-HR SE’s standard 60 series tires. The Equinox EV’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the C-HR XSE’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Equinox EV has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the C-HR SE. The Equinox EV’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the C-HR XSE.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Toyota C-HR only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Equinox EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The C-HR doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Equinox EV’s wheelbase is 8 inches longer than on the C-HR (116.3 inches vs. 108.3 inches).

The Equinox EV LT handles at .87 G’s, while the C-HR XSE pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

Passenger Space

The Equinox EV has 8.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the C-HR (102.2 vs. 93.6).

The Equinox EV has .1 inches more front headroom, 1.5 inches more front hip room, .6 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear headroom, 5.8 inches more rear legroom, 5.9 inches more rear hip room and .8 inches more rear shoulder room than the C-HR.

Cargo Capacity

The Equinox EV has a much larger cargo volume than the C-HR with its rear seat up (26.4 vs. 25.3 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Equinox EV’s liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The C-HR doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

The Equinox EV has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The C-HR has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Equinox EV uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The C-HR doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Servicing Ease

The Equinox EV uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The C-HR uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

The Equinox EV offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The C-HR doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Equinox EV’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The C-HR’s power window (except driver window) and power lock switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Equinox EV has a standard rear wiper. The C-HR doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Equinox EV keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The C-HR doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Equinox EV’s optional Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The C-HR doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The Equinox EV is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The C-HR doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
